Mission

Our mission is to drive sustainable and inclusive development in Asia by supporting initiatives at the intersection of food security, agriculture, environmental protection, and climate resilience. Through our philanthropic efforts, we are committed to restoring ecosystems, empowering local communities, and building a resilient future that benefits both people and the planet.

Our Approach

• We address challenges where environmental concerns intersect with social and community well-being, directing our grants toward the convergence of food and agriculture systems, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental protection.

• We believe that fostering cooperation across the region is essential to achieving sustainable development in Asia;

• We facilitate cross-border collaborations to identify mutual solutions for regional issues. We support solutions that are grounded in the local context and driven by experts from the region.

We support projects at the intersection of food and agriculture systems, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental protection. Over the past two decades, we have made over 100 grants. Throughout Asia—from the remote Pacific islands to our e base in Hong Kong—we have tirelessly explored ways to harmonise humanity with nature, develop solutions to climate change, and promote the value of cross-border exchanges and sharing among civil society.

Governance Philosophy and Management Structure

As a charitable organisation registered in Hong Kong with over 20 years of history, we place great importance on the professionalism and integrity of our operations.

The governance of ECF is entrusted to a Board of Directors composed of five experienced individuals from diverse professional backgrounds who share our commitment to protecting the planet. Serving voluntarily, the trustees provide guidance and advice to ECF, their responsibilities include approving the Foundation’s strategic direction, overseeing the annual work plan, and approving the annual budget.

To ensure strong checks and balances, ECF operates under a rigorous financial and grant management system. An advisory committee of three independent consultants, serving voluntarily, meets three times a year to review and approve grant expenditures in accordance with the annual programme and related progress outputs. This process ensures accountability and transparency in both project execution and financial management.

Our financial accounts are prepared per the Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards and we engage a third-party accounting firm to conduct independent audits.
